During the early
sixties, there was a large requirement of Managers at the top
and middle level to manage the industry, Sugar Mills, Spinning
Mills, Textile Mills and other business houses. A dearth of such
trained personnel began to be felt in Western Maharashtra and
became fairly acute in early seventies. The Institutes providing
Management education were very few and were located only in
bigger cities like Pune and Mumbai.
This gap of trained and skilled personnel was well anticipated
and understood by Dr. A.D.Shinde, a renowned Chartered
Accountant and Financial Advisor, who has wide teaching
experience at Undergraduate and Post Graduate level. Professor
Shinde was the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management
for nine years, a Member of Executive Council for more than
fifteen years, a Member of Academic Council, Commerce Faculty
and also of various Boards of Studies and many other Committees
of the Shivaji University, Kolhapur. He realized the need of a
business school at Kolhapur. His dream of training youth to face
the challenges of the new millennium of the twenty first century
became a reality when he registered a Charitable Trust "Chhatrapati
Shahu Institute of Business Education and Research Trust" under
the able guidance of Late Padmabhooshan Vasantraodada Patil, Ex.
Chief Minister, Maharashtra State with active support from Late
Shri Sripatrao Bondre, Ex. Minister, Maharashtra State.
Chh. Shahu Central Institute of Business Education & Research
started imparting management education since 1976 and is a
pioneer in the Shivaji University area not only in creating
awareness in Management and IT education but also in starting
different post-graduate courses at Kolhapur since 1976.
After 1980 the entire economic development has undergone a great
deal of change in the country and as a result of rapid
development of industry and commerce, the need for efficient and
qualified management personnel became all the more pressing,
Shivaji University, Kolhapur had no Department of Management
Studies in the area except one centre providing management
education at Kolhapur.
The trustees of the CSCIBER Trust realized that a number of
students were aspiring to take education in professional courses
but as the facilities were not available the students from
Sangli and rural area were deprived from getting professional
education. In entire Sangli district, even though it is
industrially developed, there was no facility for getting
training in Management Sciences. Taking into consideration the
demand from the students, the Trustees of the CSCIBER Trust
approached the authorities of the Shivaji University, Kolhapur
with a request to grant affiliation to our Institute in order to
run different courses in management at Miraj-Sangli area. The
University authorities granted the affiliation and permitted us
to start the Management courses in 1984. We are proud to state
that this Institute is a pioneer in the field of management
education in Sangli District.
Initially our Institute was established for conducting MBA
Programme only. Subsequently the Institute sought affiliation
from the Shivaji University, Kolhapur, for some other Post
graduate course in Commerce and Management.
Recently, the Institute has shifted to its own spacious premises
on Sangli - Miraj Road at Wanlesswadi, Sangli.
The following courses are conducted by the Institute -
1. Master of Business Administration (MBA)
2. Master of Commerce (M.Com)
3. Diploma in Business Management (DBM)
4. Diploma in Taxation (DIT)
5. Diploma in Hospital Management (D.H.M)
The authorities of the Shivaji University recommended to the
Govt. of Maharashtra to grant approval for the below mentioned
courses to be run at Sangli. These courses have been started
from the academic year 2002-2003.
1. Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
2. Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)
3. Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA)
The Trust which runs this Institute is not satisfied only with
running the said Professional courses but also desires to run
different courses in computer education and computer technology.
The trustees have decided to establish a well-equipped computer
centre and to start different need-based and innovative courses
in computer technology. Computer education has acquired
importance in all branches of education. In addition to the
above said regular courses in computer education, in order to
make the computer education available to the rural masses and
also to those who are not in a position to join any college and
intend to have computer education, the Trustees have decided to
start computer courses of YCMOU, Nasik from this academic year.
The University authorities are kind enough to allow this
institute to start various IT courses. These courses are part
time courses and the students who cannot afford to join the
college can take advantage of these courses. After the
completion of faculty building the Trustee have decided to start
courses in Agricultural science and offer extension service by
undertaking distance education programmes.
